DFW Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Class Practice Test

When you approach a hold bar, you stop on the solid-line side because that solid boundary marks the edge of the protected area. The solid lines indicate you must not cross without ATC clearance. The dashed lines on the opposite side show the path you may cross into the runway area when you’ve been cleared. So stopping before the solid lines keeps aircraft out of the restricted area until clearance is given, and crossing is only allowed after authorization.
