DFW Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Class Practice Test

Hold-short markings mark the boundary between runway and taxiway and tell you where to stop and where you may cross. They consist of solid lines and dashed lines across the taxiway. The solid-line side is the boundary you must not cross without explicit clearance. The dashed-line side is the side from which you may cross when ATC has cleared you. So, when approaching a hold bar, both aircraft and ground vehicles must stop on the solid-line side before you reach the runway boundary. The dashed-line side is the side you would cross only with clearance, not where you stop.
